Palladium is the cool answer to a warm buckle: whiter and more neutral than gold plating, which is why I like it against black and against anything with a grey or blue cast in the cloth. On this Jumbo, the silver-toned plate sits on a black Box calfskin face with a warm gold-tan Togo reverse.
The strap is 38 mm, roughly an inch and a half, paired with the Jumbo’s broader buckle, a combination built for denim, chore coats and boxy casual jackets. It slides through most jean loops with room to spare and gives a casual outfit a more substantial anchor at the waist than a slim dress belt can.
Box 135 is glossy and smooth, with a mirror finish that takes on a patina; it is also the face that shows scuffs first. Togo’s pebbled grain is matte, softer in the hand and more resistant, so the gold-tan side is the one I keep in rotation for weekends and long journeys. Choosing between them takes nothing more than turning the buckle.
The trade-off is honest and simple: a wide strap under a trim suit jacket can look heavy, and the polished black face will collect marks if you lean against desk edges. Both are manageable, and both are part of living with smooth calf.
Waist sizes are given in centimetres from 80 up to 115. Take the measurement where the belt will actually sit, over the trousers you plan to wear, since a heavy denim waistband adds a little girth.
