Matte Porosus does not look like calfskin pretending to be exotic; it looks like the animal it came from, scaled in clear rectangles and finished down to a quiet, velvety matte. The hide, finished in France, began its life in Australia, and the character is unmistakable from the first touch.
In size it matches the calfskin PM exactly – 28 centimetres by 18, eight deep – and I keep it to essentials on principle: a phone, a cardholder and keys, nothing that could press a hard corner against a scale. The straps and back run flat, so the backpack version of an exotic hide still behaves like a lightweight city pack. For a bag this serious, the carry is almost casual – the straps get on fine with a raincoat.
Blue Indigo shifts tone with the finish: matte blue over raised scales gives both colour and relief, and the silver hardware supplies the one clean metallic note the surface wants. Under evening light the scales catch in irregular glints that no embossed leather can imitate.
Two honest notes. First, the scale pattern varies bag to bag, so yours is genuinely its own. Second, crocodile dislikes prolonged damp – if it gets rained on, wipe each scale dry and let it breathe away from heat, and condition sparingly a few times a year. Handled that way it stays supple and close to the day it arrived, which is more than most treasured things manage. It also outlasts everything else in the rotation.
