Fog has a texture, if you look at it long enough — and Gris Misty is that texture in leather. It is a grey with a soft, blurred depth to it, at home against navy wool, olive field jackets and anything stone-coloured. On the Hac à Dos PM it turns a compact backpack into the most diplomatic bag in the room.
Sizing runs closer to a thick novel than to a school backpack: the silhouette is 28 x 18 cm with an eight-centimetre spine, which is why it works as a city bag rather than a burden. The Togo calfskin from France holds that shape thanks to its pebbled resilience, softening over the years into something more personal. Silver hardware adds the only cold notes on the bag, which suits this muted colourway down to the ground.
What rides in mine: a 500 ml flask, sunglasses, a cardholder, keys and a folded scarf in winter; swapped for a paperback and a charging pouch in summer. The straps carry it high on the back, café-chair-proof and coat-friendly, and it is small enough to claim a sliver of space under a restaurant table.
Honest note: misty greys and wet weather are acquaintances, not friends. Togo is hardy, but pale-grey leather shows water marks more than midtones do, so I give mine a wipe after walking through rain and it has stayed even-toned for seasons. If your commute is a bicycle in a downpour, buy the noir instead — Misty is the grey for careful weather.
