Everyone should own one bag that works at nine in the morning and nine at night without a word of adjustment, and in my case this is it. The Constance 19 in 89 Noir is formal enough for a client meeting, plain enough for errands, and the gold hardware gives the black a warmth that silver does not – the difference is subtle on a screen and obvious in person.
Epsom at this scale is a lesson in structure: four centimetres deep, fifteen tall, and rigid enough that the flap and body meet in a perfect seam every time. Black Epsom wears beautifully on the flat surfaces; it is at the flap bend that you see the first signs of a long life, typically a soft grey at the crease after a few years. That is the honest cost of carrying one bag constantly.
It takes a phone, a compact cardholder, keys, a lipstick and a thin comb – arranged flat, in one layer. Anything stacked becomes visible in the flap line. The strap does not adjust, so the bag lands where it lands on your body; on me that is just above the hip, worn crossbody, which is ideal for subway doors and market aisles.
What care looks like, honestly: a dry cloth for dust, away from direct sun when stored, and no hanging by the strap – the weight should always sit on the base. I would not take it hiking, but for city life, this size in this colour might be the closest thing to a bag that never needs a second opinion.
