Etoupe is the chameleon of the colour range – a grey with brown under it, or a taupe with grey on top, depending on who is describing it. Eighteen Etoupe on Epsom is the most useful neutral I own: it goes around a navy suit and a camel coat equally, and it never looks like it is trying to be a statement.
The frame underneath is the middle of the family, the size people forget exists between the tiny and the large. For me it is the sweet spot: big enough for the day, small enough for dinner. The silver hardware quietly reinforces the grey in the leather; with gold the same bag would lean warmer and slightly more traditional.
My standard load: a long wallet only if it is slim, phone, keys, lipstick, and a folded tote for shopping. I mention the tote because a bag this size teaches you to plan – it carries your essentials, not your intentions. Crossbody on the fixed strap, hands free, and the flap opens wide enough to reach in while walking, which I cannot say for every small bag.
The one caveat: etoupe is a colour that hides small marks well but shows big ones – a deep scratch on this mid-tone grey reads clearly because there is no dark or light to absorb it. Epsom resists most of what a city throws at it, so in practice I have needed to worry about this exactly never. Another decade of carrying it and I expect the same report.
