Etain is the darkest grey in the family, a pewter tone that sits one step away from black and carries a faint brownish warmth in certain light. With silver hardware it looks cool and understated, a bag that does not announce itself but also never looks plain.
Twenty-five by twenty by thirteen centimetres, Togo sourced in France, silver-tone plates throughout. The pebble grain on a colour this dark gives the surface a subtle topography, so it reads as textured leather rather than a dark mass. Etain also partners well with grey clothing of almost any temperature, warm or cool, which very few neutrals can claim.
My carrying habit with a dark bag is pouches, and here it matters: phone, cardholder, keys, compact and lipstick all travel in distinct compartments so I can find them. The soft leather lets the walls flex around a fuller load.
The honest trade-off is the same as any near-black: it visually merges with black clothing, so it is less of a contrast piece and more of a background one. I wear it with camel, cream and grey to let it show. Inside, the leather has softened enough that a slim umbrella slides alongside everything else without pressing against the flap.
Durability has been strong. Pebbled grain hides the small marks that a smooth dark leather advertises, and after steady use the corners are still sharp and the hardware unmarked.
