Malachite is the green of polished stone, and on a 40 it has the presence of a piece of luggage from another era. I first carried it to a board meeting and it read as authority, not decoration.
At 40 by 30 by 21 cm it is proper travel size, with silver hardware and a flap that opens wide so the interior stays accessible. It takes a laptop, a folio, a change of clothes or a day’s worth of documents with room to spare, and I have used it as a weekender for a mountain wedding and as a document bag for a three-day review.
In use, deep green hides the scuffs of commuting better than black does, and the grain keeps the surface matte enough for daylight meetings. Silver on malachite is a cool pairing; it makes the green look mineral rather than mossy.
Honest notes: a 40 in this color is a lot of green, and on a smaller frame it dominates the silhouette; check the proportions before you commit. The size also invites overpacking, and the bag gets heavy fast. Togo relaxes over the years, so it will slouch more, not less. Mine already leans gently when empty, and I find the trade honest: softness is what makes it comfortable on a full day.
Worn with grey and navy tailoring it is the most interesting bag in a serious room. It is a working bag with a jeweler’s color, and it carries a week of work like it enjoys the responsibility.
