My test for a 40 is the overnight train: laptop, wash bag, change of shirt, charger. On that trip the Blue Saphir 40 held all of it and still closed without a fight.
It is the 40 frame, 40 by 30 by 21 cm, in pebbled Togo calfskin with silver hardware. Deep sapphire is the right color for a travel bag; it reads navy under lamplight and royal in daylight, and it holds up to hotel carpets and train seats without showing a mark for it.
In use, Togo’s grain absorbs the knocks of terminals and taxis, and the rolled handles stay comfortable when the bag is heavy, which with a 40 it often is. The interior is generous enough that a wash bag and a rolled shirt do not argue about space. Silver hardware keeps the blue cool; gold would have made the sapphire sweeter than I wanted.
Honest notes: a full 40 is genuinely heavy by the end of a long terminal walk, and Togo slouches once contents settle, so pack it full or watch it lean. The corners soften first, and on this blue it reads as weathering, not damage, but it happens. Weathering on a blue bag is honest in a way a black one does not have to be.
For three-day trips it replaces a rollaboard with considerably more charm. If you carry a laptop and a change of clothes, this is the 40 to do it with. Pack it the night before a train, and the trip starts quietly well.
