There is a white that only works between May and September, and 10 Craie is it: a chalk white with barely a trace of grey, warmer than paper and cleaner than cream. I first carried this one to a long garden lunch, where it did more for a plain linen dress than a necklace would have.
In Taurillon Clemence, Craie shows every rise of the pebble grain, which is exactly why I like it here: white leather often photographs flat, and this one has texture to catch even dull light. The bag is 22 cm wide, 21 tall and 18 deep, easily carrying sunglasses, a wallet, a phone and a paperback, though the soft sides let everything settle low. Clemence has real weight to it, which means the bag hangs nicely on the arm instead of drifting around.
The gold hardware warms the whole thing up. The lock rests on its leather tab against the chalk body, and the fittings read closer to aged brass than sharp yellow, which keeps the bag from looking clinical. It also spares you the icy look white can take on with silver, and it flatters straw hats and tan sandals in a way cool metal does not.
Honest caveat: chalk hides nothing. New denim will mark the base and the handles within an afternoon, and the suede side of the interior picks up makeup. A soft cloth and a little leather balm twice a season is the entire maintenance regime; treat this as a bag for known-weather days and know you are doing it on purpose.
