Navy has always been my shorthand for a bag that does not need to be noticed. This 2Z Blue Nuit Picotin Lock 22 is the most useful version of that idea I have carried: dark enough for a dinner table, blue enough to keep a grey suit from looking flat. I bought it as an evening bag and ended up taking it to breakfast meetings all spring.
The body is Taurillon Clemence, a thick taurillon calfskin with a broad pebble grain, and because the Picotin is unlined, it slouches into a soft, rounded shape the moment I set it down. Nothing is hidden inside; you look straight at the velvety reverse of the same hide. At 22 by 21 by 18 cm it takes a phone, a cardholder, a key pouch, sunglasses in a soft sleeve and a small bottle of water without ever looking packed, and the grain shifts a little from piece to piece the way natural hides always do.
Silver hardware suits this color. The lock threads over its leather tab and rests flat against the navy; the fittings stay bright without shouting. The two short handles clear the hand or sit on the forearm, and the leather’s own weight keeps the base from sagging flat even when the bag is nearly empty.
One honest note: indoors, Blue Nuit mostly reads black. If you want a bag that announces itself as blue, this is not it. The payoff is a navy that turns deep and formal after dark, and a grain you can still read on a bright morning. It has become the bag I reach for when I am wearing denim and want the outfit to look considered without any real effort.
