I have carried this exact bag with both hardware finishes, and so I can say the choice is not cosmetic. Gold changes Etoupe’s character: the warm metal pulls the taupe towards beige and makes the whole bag look softer, older-money and a little sweeter. Silver leaves it stony and cool. If you have ever wondered which Etoupe to buy, the answer depends entirely on which of those two people you are.
The leather underneath is the same in both cases: Epsom, heat-embossed, firm, and about as close to weather-proof as calfskin gets. Rain rolls off, the shape holds empty, and the pale contrast stitching draws its fine outline around panels that would otherwise be a single quiet colour.
What fits: a phone, a cardholder, keys and a lipstick — the fixed menu of the 19 x 12 x 5.5 cm Kelly Mini. I take mine to dinners, to meetings, and anywhere I want to look considered without looking dressed up.
One honest caution for the gold version in particular: the warm cast means this bag leans beige under warm indoor lighting and reads truer taupe only in daylight. If you want the cool, grey-leaning Etoupe you saw in a photo, silver is the finish to choose, and vice versa — gold is for the people who came for the warmth.
Either way, the leather will outlast the argument — and gold will keep winning people over at dinner.
