Few leathers change a dinner table like lizard. In 1B Ombre, the scales on this Constance 19 fade from deep espresso at the flap toward warm caramel at the base, and the gradient does something rare for a small bag: it makes it look considered rather than cute. Under candlelight the fine scales gleam without ever being glossy.
The scale grain here is small and even, the mark of good panel selection. Structurally this is the same 19 by 15 cm frame, four centimetres deep, holding a phone, a card holder, keys and lipstick — a minimal kit, exactly right for the evenings this bag belongs to. It is not pretending to be a work bag.
Gold hardware sharpens the gradient; the clasp sits against the darkest part of the ombre like a seal on an envelope. On the shoulder strap it rides high and flat, so it photographs the way it looks in life, which is not always true of small bags.
The honest caveat: lizard is a dressy, delicate leather. Water leaves marks, sun will fade it over years, and the scales can lift if it is knocked around. Carry it as a jewel, store it in its dust bag away from light, and it will reward you for decades.
For a strict black-tie dinner or an auction-house lunch, nothing else I have carried has the same gravity at this size.
