A small plaque of white gold with an H cut out of it, forty-three diamonds packed into the surrounding frame, and a chain you can set between two lengths: that is the whole of this pendant, and it is enough. Total weight of the stones is 0.44 carats, all of them tiny, all of them working together.
I first wore mine with a grey silk shirt and understood the point of white gold immediately. The metal sinks into cool colours and lets the diamonds carry the light, which is the opposite of what rose gold does. On bare skin in summer it looks almost like frost.
The adjustment sits between 14.96 and 15.74 inches, so the plaque can rest at the base of the throat or slightly below it. Mine stays short with open collars and drops down for knitwear.
Caveats. Forty-three stones in a small frame means the piece depends on a jeweller’s cleaning style rather than a quick rinse; warm water and a soft brush at home have kept mine bright. And white gold does not flatter everyone’s skin, so try it against your neck in daylight before deciding. Made in France.
For anyone comparing this with the pink sapphire version, the difference is temperature rather than size: diamonds over white gold stay neutral and take on the light around them, while a coloured stone imposes its own. Under a grey sky this one looks almost silver. Mine has kept its brightness with a monthly soak in warm water and a drop of gentle soap.
