Two blues in one small object is a bolder move than it sounds. The R.M.S. in 8U Blue Glacier with 85 Ardoise plays them against each other: from across a room it reads as one calm colour, and up close you catch the second. I have carried paler blues that went grey and muddier over a season; this one has kept its clarity. The glacier half still looks as clean as it did the week it arrived.
The frame is the familiar pocket size — about four inches by three, two centimetres thick — so it slides into a back pocket on errand days and sits flat in a shirt pocket at dinner. These days it holds two bank cards, my building fob and a hotel key card I still have not posted back. The stack stays where I put it because the leather grips rather than clamps.
Evecolor is what gives the glacier tone its clarity: smooth, with a faint sheen, and a grain that is too fine to break up the colour the way a heavy pebble would. It also resists scuffing better than it looks like it should. The fittings carry their own enamel layer, so the blue worked into the closure will not rub off with use.
The trade-off sits with the lighter half of the pairing. Leave it in a pocket with fresh indigo denim all day and it will pick up a whisper of transfer. A dry cloth wipe after that sort of day keeps the 8U tone honest.
