Ask me which leather I would choose for a red Kelly and I will hand you Epsom every time. The embossed grain keeps its pressed texture through years of use, so a red 28 stays architectural instead of relaxing into a puddle the way softer skins can.
Rouge Coeur is a true, saturated red with a blue undertone. It reads confident next to navy, denim or black and lifts an all-grey outfit without shouting. Silver hardware keeps the effect crisp; gold would have pushed the same red somewhere sweeter, and I prefer it sharp.
At 28 x 22 x 10 cm this is the size I take when I need to carry more than a phone and a cardholder: a slim folio, a cosmetic pouch, keys and a paperback all sit inside with room to reach past them. The flap opens wide on its sangles, which matters more than people expect once your hands are full.
What I like about Epsom over time is how little drama it gives you. Rain wipes off, corners resist scuffing, and the structure is exactly where you left it. The trade-off is tactile: this is not a leather that softens into your hand or develops a patina, it stays as delivered.
One more honest thing: red Epsom this saturated will not disappear into a wardrobe. That is the point, but it means the bag does the talking, so I let it.
