Slate grey and gold: it’s a combination you see on well-kept railings in old European cities, and it works as well on a bag as it does on ironwork. This Herbag Zip 31 brings ardoise canvas and noir leather together, then lets the gold hardware do the talking, warm studs and fittings against cool grey, like a brass hinge on a painted gate.
I use mine as a day bag with evening manners. It holds a notebook, a cardholder, keys and a folded pashmina during the day, and after a quick tidy it’s presentable for dinner, because the grey reads formal under restaurant light without ever looking stiff. The canvas weave is fine and even, and the hunter-cowhide top has a firm hand that holds its shape over the flap.
Sizewise, the figures are the standard full frame — 31 centimetres wide, 25 high and 10 deep — which is more room than the silhouette suggests. A tablet, a slim folder and a water bottle disappear inside, and the exterior back pocket keeps tickets reachable without opening the bag at all.
Two practical notes. Gold-tone hardware on grey cloth shows smudges, so I keep a small cloth in my desk drawer, and because the flap is hunter cowhide it stays crisp rather than slouchy. If you prefer a bag that melts against you, look at softer constructions. If you like your softness earned through use, this one delivers it slowly, and keeps its edge while it does.
