I keep a shortlist of bags that board a plane well, and the Mini Herbag Zip 20 in écru, blue glacier and ardoise has been on it since my first trip together with it. Silver hardware is the silent partner, with no gleam to catch in a departure lounge, while the tricolour body stays legible against every seat, floor and rental-car interior I’ve set it on.
Militaire canvas is the reason it travels: the weave resists scuffing from tray tables, and the hunter-cowhide top shrugs off handling. At twenty centimetres wide with seven centimetres of depth, it flattens against the torso when worn crossbody, and the strap length works over both a t-shirt and a light jacket. The collapsible handle, pressed down, removes the last thing that might snag.
What goes in: passport, boarding pass in the back zip pocket, phone, a card case, earphones and a lipstick, with room left for a hotel key card. It sits under an airplane seat without being noticed and travels to dinner without being changed out. The pale palette, I’ve found, looks polished in every setting.
The honest footnote concerns the pale canvas: airport life is not clean, and armrests leave their compliments. A dry cloth at the hotel each evening has kept mine looking new through a dozen flights. If you’d rather not think about upkeep, choose a darker colourway; if you will, this one is worth the moment’s care.
