Beton is the grey of concrete and paving stones, cool, flat and deliberate, and on the R.M.S. card holder it has an urban calm that suits the 10.5 by 7 cm format. It is the sort of piece that looks better the plainer your other belongings are.
At 2 cm deep, this holder has more body than most card cases, and the extra thickness is what gives it the solid, block-like hand feel the design seems to want. The Evecolor grain is fine and even, so the concrete tone stays consistent across panels and edges.
Six cards and a folded note fit without complaint, and the enamel fitting adds a single spot of gloss at the front. I have used mine as a small desk object as much as a pocket piece, sliding it out at meetings where a full wallet would look heavy.
The honest note is about cleaning: a cool grey this pale shows smudges from hand cream and the occasional inked finger, and the matte finish cannot be buffed back to spotless the way a burnished leather can. A damp cloth, not soap, keeps it presentable. Beyond that, it has been quietly excellent.
Where it fits: at a studio desk, in a coat pocket, in the flat palm of a hand while you sign for something. Beton suits all three, and it has one quality that matters in daily use, which is that it never looks out of date, no matter what else you are wearing. It is the most architectural piece in this range.
