Same pastel blue, different mood. Put gold hardware on 08 Blue Pale and the bag warms up, as if the blue had spent a summer on a windowsill. It pairs with cream linen and camel in a way the cooler versions of this bag simply do not.
The construction is all softness: unlined Clemence, no padding, no pockets and nothing to break, so a phone, sunglasses, a cardholder, keys, a lipstick and a thin paperback drop in without ceremony. The leather is thick, though, and it holds the pale color evenly rather than letting it go patchy the way some light hides do. When the bag sits on a chair beside me, the gold lock is usually the first thing people notice, and the blue is the second.
The gold lock rests on its leather tab and gives the pastel a warm anchor. At a garden party this summer it looked like part of the outfit; nothing about it asked to be handled carefully, even though I was handling it carefully anyway. Against winter wool in oatmeal and camel, pale blue is the last color you expect and the first one people comment on.
One honest point: on pale leather, scuffs show as darker smudges rather than scratches, and the lock area takes the first of them. Gold hardware does not prevent that; it just makes the contrast kinder when it happens. Keep a cloth nearby and the bag stays bright, and accept that a carried bag is a living thing.
