Black and white in one sandal is a stronger idea than it sounds. Here the vamp carries the light tone while the darker elements ground it, and the result is graphic enough to hold its own against a patterned dress, which a plain black sandal never quite does. It settles the question of accessories, which is a quieter benefit than it sounds. In photographs the contrast reads instantly, which is useful for a plain dress.
Swift calfskin keeps the contrast soft rather than sharp — smooth leather takes the pale half gracefully, without the chalkiness embossed calf can show. The H cut-out, ankle strap and sub-two-inch heel are the standard Oasis set, in sizes from 36 to 41, made in Italy. Swift’s finish means the pale half has a soft glow rather than a hard chalk white.
I wear this pair when I want the outfit to look decided without adding colour: black trousers and a white shirt, a striped dress, a tan. They are also remarkably good on a boat, where a dark sole matters and a pale shoe photographs well. I have worn them with a tan coat in September as happily as with shorts in July.
The thing to keep in mind: two tones mean two cleaning routines, and the pale half will always show wear first. Store them with tissue in the vamp so the white leather does not pick up a print from whatever sits against it. A single dust bag and care with the vamp is enough; two compartments would be overdoing it.
