Asphalt grey is what I suggest to people who think they want black. It has enough depth to look serious, enough lightness to show the shape of the wallet, and on the slim H Passant it picks up the silver hardware in a way black simply cannot.
Dimensions here are 18.5 by 12 cm with a 1.6 cm profile, so it travels in a breast pocket or the narrow slot of a backpack without leaving a bulge. The front H detail is subtle in this colour, more a texture than a mark, and the Epsom surface takes the urban tone without any gloss.
Mine carries six cards, notes, a spare SIM card and coins in the shallow zip. The flap has kept its shape through daily handling, and the grey has done the neat trick of not showing the dusty residue that accumulates in coat pockets.
One reservation, offered honestly: asphalt grey can look plain next to a tan or a deep green, because it is a working colour rather than a beautiful one. I have come to think of it as the navy suit of neutrals, dependable in every setting and interesting to almost nobody, which is precisely its charm in a wallet.
Where it earns its place is at a desk on a Monday, in a bag on a train, in the rain, in short all the ordinary moments that make up most of a week. A more dramatic colour would be wasted on them; asphalt grey simply gets on with it.
