Gris Asphalte is the colour of a dry street after rain — a true neutral grey with barely a blue note in it. It was my first grey bag purchase in a decade, and the reason a second one followed. Whenever someone asks for a grey that will not turn bluish the moment it meets a navy coat, I point them here.
The mini’s dimensions do the familiar work: just under twenty centimetres wide, twelve and a half tall, nine deep. It takes phone, wallet, keys and lipstick, and on commuting days a spare charging cable coiled into one corner without crowding anything else.
Clemence gives mid-greys their best chance — the pebble grain scatters light so the surface never looks like flat felt, and the tone shifts warm or cool as you move. The silver hardware completes the monochrome; studs and clasps vanish into the shade rather than decorating it. The clasps look almost painted onto the grey rather than fixed to it, which keeps the whole bag reading as one material.
In the rain it is the bag I trust most, since this grey wears water marks more lightly than lighter shades do. A dry cloth and it is forgotten.
The one honest warning: under office fluorescent light this grey plays dead — flat, and faintly green. Take it outside and the colour revives immediately. If most of your day happens under tubes, a warmer shade will make you happier than this one will.
