Lizard is a dressier hide than most people expect. The scales are tiny and regular, closer to a grid than a pattern, and on Ardoise, a slate grey with a cold blue undertone, the whole bag reads like cut stone, matte grey from one angle and faintly metallic from another. I first saw this colourway in an evening setting and have associated it with evenings ever since.
South African lizard is the classic source for these small, even scales, and the finish here is fine enough that the 19cm silhouette looks almost jewel-like. Silver hardware is the only sensible pairing, and the turn-lock disappears into the surface like a deliberately placed detail rather than a bright badge.
What a bag this size holds is simple: a phone, a card wallet, lipstick and keys. I keep it to exactly that, because lizard rewards being carried lightly.
The trade-off lives in the corners, where the scales are most exposed to friction. Keep it away from rough fabrics and grabby straps, do not let anything heavy lean on it, and condition sparingly, because this is leather that wants to be handled with a little respect rather than repaired. In exchange, you get a surface that catches candlelight better than calfskin ever will.
If your evenings involve a table, a glass and not much else, it is the one to hand over first; it is dressed before you are. Pair it with grey, ink or ivory and let the stone-cold surface do the rest.
