Some reds announce themselves from across the street. Rouge Coeur is the other kind: a saturated, true red that shows its depth up close and settles into a navy coat or a cream knit without dominating either.
The leather here is Chèvre, and it matters. Goat skin takes colour unusually evenly, so there is no patchiness across the flap, and the fine grain gives the surface a faintly dry, paper-like touch rather than a shine. Silver hardware keeps the tone cool and slightly graphic against the red.
The Elan cut is long and shallow – 27 cm across, 15 tall, about 5 deep – so it carries like a clutch with a strap. My phone, a cardholder, keys and a lipstick fit with room to spare; anything boxier, like a hard sunglasses case, makes it lumpy. Worn crossbody, the elongated flap lies flat against the hip and stays out of the way in a crowd, which is exactly what I want from a bag this size.
One honest caveat: Chèvre is durable but not armour-plated, and a bright red will show a scuff on a corner sooner than a black would. On the rare occasion mine has picked one up, a fingertip of conditioner has blended it back in. The other thing to know is that the silver clasp is polished to a mirror finish, so it collects fingerprints; the upside is that it never looks dull.
If you have been waiting for a red that works from morning meetings to dinner, this is the shade I would shortlist first.
