I carried this Blue Saphir Kelly Elan to a gallery opening last month, and it stayed in my hand all evening rather than face down on a table. In Chèvre, the leather has a fine, close grain that drinks up deep dye without looking flat, and this navy reads nearly black in dim light and unmistakably blue in daylight.
The Elan silhouette does the work: an elongated flap with no top handle, 27 cm long, 15 tall and a mere 5 deep, so it tucks under the arm or rides crossbody on its strap when I need both hands. Inside, I fit a phone, a cardholder, a small key pouch, one lipstick and folded reading glasses, with room in the gusset for a slim notebook. The flap closes on the house turn-lock, and the gold hardware against this blue is warm rather than flashy.
After a few weeks, two things stand out. Chèvre is noticeably lighter than most grained calfskins, which matters on a small bag, and the lightly rigid structure keeps the long shape from collapsing when it sits empty. What I did not expect is how often I choose it over bigger bags – when a bag holds exactly the daily minimum, it never becomes a tote full of dead weight.
The trade-off: goat leather creases along the flap fold, and mine has softened into a soft ridge I now rather like. It also wants a dry cloth after heavy rain, though a light shower has never marked it.
For an evening-to-day piece that vanishes under a coat but still looks considered carried bare, this is the colour I would chase first.
