Rose Sakura is that two-week pink – the colour cherry blossom actually shows on a grey morning, pale and slightly grey inside the petals – and Togo’s soft grain keeps it gentle rather than candy-coated. It lifts a navy or grey coat without a word of effort, which is why mine comes out every spring and stays out through early summer.
Inside, the Kelly 28 format – 28 by 22 by 10 centimetres – holds the compact essentials: wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses in a sleeve, lipstick. Silver hardware keeps the pastel clean and modern; gold would have pushed the whole bag sweeter, and I prefer it precisely one notch shy of that.
The practical honesty of pale pink: with a soft, open grain, keep dark denim and new dark leather away from it, and wipe hand cream off the flap after coffee. My bag has worn evenly because I follow those two rules. A friend who does not has a subtle grey shadow along her back panel that she has learned to live with.
Storage matters too – a filled dust bag, never the boot of a car, and never pressed under anything heavier. An occasional dab with leather cleaner keeps a pale grain honest through the years.
Paired with white shirts in April or grey wool in November, it does the same job: it makes everything around it look lighter.
