Celeste is the kind of pale blue that only works when the leather underneath is perfectly even: a milky sky tone that runs cool next to the silver snap. I have lost pale wallets to dark denim before, so with this one I read the finish before committing, and stamped Epsom turned out to be the right call.
This is a compact snap wallet, and compact here means 18.5 by 11.5 by 4.5 cm closed: a folded body with a gusseted centre that opens wide enough to see everything at once, rather than a shallow sleeve you have to dig into. Ten cards across the slots, notes in the long compartment behind them, coins in the zipped section.
Epsom is stamped under heat, which gives it that fine, regular grain and makes it unusually forgiving in a light colour, since ink and scratch marks wipe away more readily than they would from a smooth calf. The leather is firm and it stays firm; anyone hoping for a wallet that softens and slouches in the hand will find this one politely refuses.
The genuine caveat is transfer. Raw denim and dark suede linings will leave blue on a pale edge over a season, so I keep this one in the lighter bag. It has been to a wedding, a long lunch and a Monday meeting, and after each it needed nothing more than a dry cloth.
