There’s a particular pleasure in a bag that looks cut from a single bolt of sun-faded fabric. This Zip 31 in écru, beige and fauve does exactly that — three warm neutrals meeting at the flap and frame, with gold hardware that reads as an extension of the colour rather than a contrast. It’s the one I take on summer trips because it makes even a plain white shirt look deliberate.
Build quality is what you’d hope for: the canvas is tightly woven with a dry, matte finish, and the hunter-cowhide top has a light natural grain. Fauve is the pale tan that deepens with handling, and mine has already gone a shade warmer at the corners. The gold-tone studs and handle plate are polished without being mirror-bright.
Inside, the 31 by 25 by 10 cm dimensions swallow the awkward things: a sun hat, a paperback, a long wallet, a beach towel rolled thin. The exterior back pocket is where my boarding passes live. On the shoulder it hangs just below the hip, and the collapsible handle tucks down when you don’t want it standing up.
The honest note: pale canvas is a commitment. Rain will spot it, indigo denim can transfer at the corners, and dust shows by the end of a week. A soft brush and a dry cloth handle most of it, and the trade is worth it — dark bags are practical, but this one is pleasant, and that’s a different job entirely.
