Some Herbags whisper and some tell a story in several colours at once. This one is the latter: écru canvas with brique, mauve pâle and rouge sellier worked into the frame and trim, so the palette shifts depending on which panel catches the light. I wore it to a gallery opening and to a farm shop on the same weekend, and it looked right in both places.
Underneath the colour play it’s the standard Herbag build — canvas shell, hunter-cowhide top — and the craft is in how precisely the coloured sections meet. The stitching follows each panel without wandering, and the silver studs sit exactly where they should on the flap. Nothing reads as a print; these are separate materials cut and dyed to sit together.
As a Zip 31 it measures 31 by 25 by 10 cm, which in practice means a compact umbrella, a notebook, phone and a slim folder, all with breathing room. The retourne construction softens the edges, so the bag folds slightly against your side when carried on the shoulder strap.
One fair warning: the pale écru sections will show a scuff long before the darker panels do, and the multi-tone look asks a little of your outfit — it doesn’t disappear the way an all-black bag does. In return, it’s the piece people ask about, and it has never once felt like an accessory that needed explaining.
