Straight answer: for years I thought green bags were for other people. Vert Verone changed that. It is a mid-tone green with a soft, almost dusty finish, closer to sage in daylight than to emerald, and silver hardware gives it a clean, modern edge that keeps the color from feeling nostalgic.
Clemence suits this shade especially well; the fine, even pebble on the surface reads almost like felt in the hand, and the compact footprint, sixteen by eighteen centimeters, keeps the bag from ever feeling like a work piece. It is a weekend bag that behaves on Fridays too. One season was enough to change my mind.
A maintenance note, since I promised honesty: mid-greens are unforgiving about edge wear, and the strap loops are where it shows first. A clear conditioner once a season keeps the tone even, and the five minutes it takes is the only real upkeep this bag has ever asked of me. The pebble on mine is fine and even, with no visible growth marks.
In spring it goes with denim and white; in autumn it slips under the arm against wool, where the silver hardware reads especially bright. Between those two seasons it spends a few quiet weeks in the drawer, and I have never minded, because what it does the rest of the year is more than enough. It is the only green I have ever recommended without a caveat, and I have recommended it often.
