Blue Glacier is meltwater colour: a pale, cool blue with a hint of green at the edges, the shade you see in the folds of an ice cave or a winter sea. On the Constance Elan 24 with silver hardware it is a study in cool tones, and it has quietly become my summer formal bag.
The bag’s geometry is the familiar Elan: twenty-four centimetres along its length, fourteen tall, eight deep, a long low flap with the metal clasp centred like a brooch. Epsom’s embossed grain is firm and holds the shape; nothing droops at the corners even after a long evening, and the pale blue stays true to tone because the embossed surface wipes clean easily. It looks especially good against a tan, which is lucky of it.
Contents are chosen by the bag, not the other way round: phone, cardholder, keys, a compact and a lipstick, and it closes cleanly over all of them. With white, silver, grey or navy it is a study in cold tones; against black it looks like a piece of porcelain on a dark table. The strap sits neatly on a shoulder above a sleeveless dress, which is exactly where I use it.
One fair warning: pale blues forgive scratches but not neglect, and a scuff on the flap edge will show more on Glacier than on a red. Keep it clean, keep it deliberate, and it will outshine every bag in the hallway. Mine has, consistently, with very little effort from me.
