Where its brighter sibling is a highlighter, Jaune Milton is a pat of butter: a gentler yellow, softened with a little cream, and it makes the Constance Elan 24 look vintage in the best sense before it has aged a day. Some yellows perform; this one simply glows. It is the yellow for people who thought they disliked yellow.
The Elan shape is the reason it feels restful: twenty-four centimetres across, fourteen high, eight deep, a long, low flap bag whose single design gesture, the metal clasp, sits centre stage. Epsom calfskin, embossed with a crisp cross-grain, keeps the rectangle exact and the flap snapping shut with a satisfying firmness. The tone is deep enough to hold up against denim and soft enough to wear with stone.
Capacity is deliberately finite: a phone, a cardholder, keys, a compact and a lipstick, and the bag makes its case through proportion rather than volume. On the shoulder or across the body, the low rectangle reads dressy with a coat and relaxed with denim, which is a wider range than its formal looks suggest. Nothing about the bag needs managing; it closes, it sits, it waits.
An honest word about pale yellows: they are the colour of summer and the enemy of a grey February, and Milton in particular can look wan under cool office light. I wear it from April to September and let it rest through the winter. Bags, like linen, are allowed to have seasons.
