Craie with silver is the cooler reading of the white Constance: the chalk white stays just as pure, but the polished metal gives it a modern, almost clinical clarity that the gold version softens away. If you think of white bags as summery and delicate, this combination repositions them – it is crisp, architectural and entirely at home in the city in January.
The leather is Epsom, pressed and sealed, so the surface is dense and matte and the colour is even from the flap to the base. Structurally, it is a nineteen-centimetre bag that stays slim at four centimetres deep, and in this pale colour the proportions look elongated – the silhouette draws a clean vertical line against dark clothing, which is where I wear it most.
Contents follow my small-bag discipline: phone, cardholder, keys, lip balm, compact, and a thin notebook if the day has meetings. The fixed strap sits crossbody; the white against a black coat is the graphic contrast I keep coming back to in winter. Inside, the flat pocket holds cards, and the flap keeps its shape even after months of use.
The care this white asks for is predictable: clean hands, caution with newspapers and ink, and a wide berth from raw denim for its first season. Epsom resists soiling better than any white leather has a right to, but white is white. I keep a dry microfibre cloth in my desk drawer, use it before leaving the house, and my craie has stayed a perfect, chalky white all year.
