Grey bags have a reputation for being sensible. Gris Platine is not sensible; it is precision – a cool platinum that makes even a tired coat look deliberate, the way a good watch strap upgrades a whole wrist. It reads silver in the sun and slate by evening, which keeps it interesting without ever being fussy.
Twenty-five centimetres at its widest, it is the compact format that works from a meeting straight into dinner without a change of contents: a phone, keys, a small notebook and a pen that lives clipped in the back slot so it never disappears. The bag holds its shape while being carried and settles politely on a chair back when set down.
Togo from France supplies the grain – an even pebble that scatters light and gives the platinum a liquid, almost metallic depth in daylight. The silver hardware is the cool half of the pairing, and on grey it is the right choice; this is one colour where gold would fight the base. Straps and turn-lock sit in the same cool metal, so nothing interrupts the greys.
Two things worth knowing. First, platinum grey photographs flat: online it looks like office furniture, in person it has far more nuance, so trust the leather on this one. Second, no grey hides all wet marks; rain on Togo dries clean, but let it dry at room temperature rather than against a radiator, or the surface can dull at the spot.
