A black bag should earn its place, and this Roulis earns it with hardware: the anchor-chain turn-lock glows gold against Noir’s matte black in a way that cheap fittings could never fake. It is the black bag I recommend to people who claim they are bored of black bags.
A compact shell: eighteen centimetres across, fifteen from base to flap top, seven in depth – in Evercolor, a calfskin whose tight, small grain holds structure like a much stiffer leather while still feeling soft in the hand. The flap closes with a single turn, and the bag rides flat whether worn short on the shoulder or long across the body.
Phone, cards, wristlet keys and a lipstick travel inside, plus a slim sunglasses case if I stack things carefully. Nothing else belongs, and nothing else is needed – the discipline of the size is the point of a mini.
The honest notes: black Evercolor attracts lint more than you would guess, so keep a cloth handy; and the clasp’s polished face will catch micro-scratches over years of use. Both are the normal cost of owning a bag that works as hard as this one does.
If it is your first black bag in a while, a word from experience: black should look deliberate, not default, and the gold clasp is what tips it from the latter to the former. It has talked three friends out of plain black bags and into this one.
