Silver does something specific to a hot colour: it cools the edges and makes the whole thing read graphic. Feu, the fire orange, on an In the Loop 18 with silver hardware is a different animal from its gold twin: less lantern, more signal flag, and I have grown to prefer it that way.
The bucket measures eighteen by nineteen and a half centimetres with twelve of depth, and the pebbled Taurillon Clemence gives the orange a soft, matte body so the colour never looks plastic. The cold fittings are minimal and sharp against it, a deliberate small discord that the rest of the bag refuses to explain. Leather this soft keeps the orange from turning brash.
It is a bag for the ends of the day: mornings with coffee and a newspaper folded into the bucket, evenings when the orange glows against a dark coat. Contents are simple: phone, keys, cardholder, sunglasses, and in winter a beanie in the leftover room. The mouth is wide enough to take all of it in one pass, and set down on a cafe table the bag holds its shape for a beat before settling, like a soft hat.
Honest caveat: this much orange plus silver reads sporty, and sporty is not a boardroom word. If your week is suits, the gold twin is the one that plays nicely. If your week is denim, trains and open windows, you already know this is the version to take.
