Autumn light is the best thing that happens to this bag. Feu, the fire orange, under gold hardware on the In the Loop 18, looks lit from inside when the sun is low, and it makes the walk home from anywhere feel like the end of a film. I schedule my errands accordingly.
The bucket itself is small and soft: eighteen centimetres across, a touch under twenty with the loop, twelve deep, Taurillon Clemence, whose pebbled surface folds around its contents. Gold is the classic partner for this shade; the two warm tones reinforce each other until the bag reads almost like a lantern. It is old-fashioned in the most useful sense of the phrase.
What it carries on an October day: a phone, keys, a small wallet, sunglasses in a sleeve and, currently, a bag of chestnuts that I keep forgetting is in there. Open mouth, no fuss, no lost lids or zips to negotiate in gloves. Errands stop feeling like tasks when this bag is along.
An honest word on the volume: this is a lot of orange to wear with a red scarf, and it wants either a full neutral outfit or a confident clash. Beige flatters it; rust fights it; and near pumpkins in late October it disappears entirely, which is the funniest thing about owning it. Worn within those rules, it has become the bag I trust with the best days of the season.
