Vert Comics is a green with a sense of humour: deep, saturated, closer to a comic-book forest than to moss or olive, and it has no interest in being a quiet neutral. On the mid-size Constance it is electric in sunlight and nearly black in a restaurant, which means one bag effectively does the work of two.
Epsom’s sealed, pressed grain holds this kind of vivid colour without streaking or fading, and it keeps the surface matte, so the green stays flat and graphic. The gold hardware runs warmer against it than silver would; with a green this saturated, the metal stops being decoration and becomes the counterweight. I have never once felt that this bag needed a pattern near it.
Practicalities: phone, cardholder, keys, lipstick and a compact, one layer only. It is the smaller frame, so the load is chosen rather than accumulated. Because the bag is small and dark in tone, it handles a wet city day better than any of my pale bags – rain beads on Epsom and wipes off, and there is no colour transfer to worry about at all.
What will not suit everyone is the pairing problem, which belongs to the owner, not the bag. A green this strong decides the outfit for you; you wear it with black, cream, denim or grey and almost nothing else, and you have to be at peace with that. If you are, it is the most fun you can have with a formal silhouette. If a bag is a background object for you, look elsewhere.
