First, a clarification worth making, because the name confuses everyone: colour 37 Gold is a leather shade, not a metal – a soft camel-tan, the colour of a well-worn camel coat, with no yellow in it. The hardware on this bag is silver. Together they make the calmest, most everyday version of the Constance 19 I have handled.
Chèvre is why it works. The goat grain has a light, agile feel, so a tan this classic never looks heavy or briefcase-like; the frame keeps its shape, but it carries like something softer. Silver keeps the composition quiet and slightly modern – the same bag with gold would be more traditional, more estate, less street. Both are good; this one is mine.
Capacity here is my usual small-bag arithmetic: phone, slim wallet, keys, lipstick, compact, and that is the list. The strap is set once and stays there, which means crossbody on my frame; the bag is light enough that I regularly check it is still there. I have taken it on trains, to meetings, and to dinners, and it has never been the wrong bag.
One trade-off to know about chèvre in tan: it picks up a light patina over time, darkening slightly at the handle points and the flap edge. I think it improves the colour – it deepens like a leather watch strap – but if you want a bag that looks factory-new in five years, choose a sealed grain instead. With chèvre you are choosing the slow, handsome change.
