Some bags are architecturally drawn; this one is cut like a soft leather jacket. J7 Blue Lin in taurillon clemence is the denim-blue, matte version of the Bolide 31 — thirty-one centimetres long, twenty-five high, twelve deep — and it behaves completely differently from the Epsom versions of the same measurements.
Clemence is thick, grained and pliable, so the dome settles a little when you set it down and creases where your hand grabs the top handle. On the hip it drapes instead of standing off. Where the Epsom version reads formal, this reads like a decade-old favourite on day one.
Capacity is the same generous format: laptop, notebook, pouch, water bottle. The silver hardware is used sparingly — you feel it mainly at the zip and the strap rings — and the colour sits between mid-blue and slate, which means it partners with everything denim does and creams beautifully too.
Honest notes, and there are two. First, clemence is heavier than the embossed calfskins, so even an empty bag weighs something in the hand. Second, the softness means corners and the base collect contact wear faster; be mindful where you set it down. Both are the price of that lovely slouch — you cannot have drape and armour at once.
I would choose this one for weekends and travel days, and reach for a firmer leather on meeting days.
