The first morning of a trip is when a bag proves itself, and the first time I packed this yellow Birkin it passed without drama. Jaune Poussin — chick yellow, and the name is accurate — is the exact colour of a summer morning in a town with shutters. A 25 cm by 20 cm footprint gives room for a passport, a phone, a wallet and two card slots, and the pebbled Togo surface bounces sunlight around so the yellow never looks flat.
Silver hardware wins here for a reason I did not expect until I carried it: on a warm yellow, silver reads fresh where gold would read golden-hour. The turn-lock sits in cool metal against the bright leather, the lock and keys dangle on their strap, and the whole bag looks like something that belongs at an open-air breakfast rather than in a glass case.
Togo in a light colour has one behaviour worth naming: the leather is not the risk, you are. Pale yellows pick up a soft amber tone where hands rest — the handle, the flap edges, the stress point above the lock — and over the years that becomes a genuine patina. Mine has started along the handle, and frankly I like it more than the day it arrived.
The real trade-off is wardrobe, not leather. Jaune Poussin does not blend; it is the loudest quiet bag I own. It works with white, denim, navy and grey, and it argues with most things else, so if you dress in prints it may sit in the dust bag more often than it should. Buy it for summers, travel and days you want the light to do the talking — in that role nothing in this size range comes close.
