Mauve Pale on something this long changes character: the dusty pink that looks sweet on a small card holder reads almost like a neutral across nineteen centimetres, and silver hardware keeps the whole thing calm rather than cute.
The wallet itself is the slim Kelly-style long wallet – a flap, two narrow straps, about a centimetre and a half of depth – in Epsom, whose embossed grain keeps the pale dye from going patchy and the panel from sagging with use. The proportions make it easy to hold in one hand while paying with the other.
What goes in: cards along the width, notes lying flat without a fold, a key, a pair of coins if you insist, and a loyalty card that has lived in the same spot for months without wandering. There is no struggle to close it, which is more than I can say for thicker wallets I have owned.
Small warnings. The pale mauve shows fingerprints for the first few weeks, and polished silver is not immune to keys; both are the ordinary costs of a light colour, and both fade from notice quickly. What does not fade is how good it looks against grey wool.
For anyone who wants one soft colour in a wardrobe of dark coats, this is the easiest version to live with that I have found. Mine has been through two weddings and a summer of commuting, and the silver and the mauve still look like they arrived together.
