If any colour suits a long wallet better than a small one, it is Etoupe. Over the full nineteen centimetres the grey-brown has space to move – grey in the middle of the panel, browner at the edges where light catches the grain – and the effect is of a leather that has been in use for years.
This is the Kelly Classique To Go, which is to say a slim long wallet – nineteen by eleven and a half centimetres, one and a half deep – with the flap and twin strap structure of the classic Kelly carried over from the handbag. Silver fittings are cool against the warm neutral, the combination I reach for most in winter.
It holds cards, flat notes, a spare key and, honestly, one too many receipts, which I clear out weekly. The slim build takes up no more room in a bag than a notebook, and it carries in the hand like a small clutch when I go out in the evening.
The catch worth naming: the twin straps are the part that takes wear, and after a season you see a gentle polish appear on the leather where they pass through each loop. Mine also has the faintest shadow on the inner flap from constant opening – normal, invisible from outside, and not something I would trade for a wallet less pleasant to use.
With grey, black, cream or denim, Etoupe never once looks like a compromise.
