Of all the greys in this collection, Etain behaves most like a metal. In daylight it is cool pewter; indoors, under warm bulbs, a brownish undertone surfaces; and against black it looks almost green-brown at the edges. You are buying a colour that never quite repeats.
Just under twenty centimetres across and eleven and a half wide, with one and a half centimetres of depth, the Kelly Classique To Go is a long wallet with the structure of the classic Kelly: a front flap, two slim straps, and hardware that closes with a considered click. Silver details are the natural match for this grey.
It swallows cards along the full length, notes without a fold, coins at one end if they must, and it keeps receipts corralled in the middle where I can find them at month end. Flat, slim and quietly capacious – the kind of wallet that makes a smaller bag possible. There is no wasted space: the interior is sized to the wallet, so cards do not shuffle and notes do not migrate into the corners.
The trade to know about: polished metal will mark against keys over time, and Etain’s green-brown undertone is unforgiving next to a pure cool grey coat, a difference that reads clearly once you have seen it. Neither has bothered me in practice.
Worn with washed denim, charcoal and ecru, it is the least decorative and most useful object I own. It is also the wallet I recommend most often to people who carry a small bag, since it takes the room of a notebook and still holds a full day’s worth of cards.
