Craie is chalk, a warm off-white that stops just short of cream, and on matte alligator the combination is almost sculptural. The plates are visible, the surface is dry-looking, and the silver hardware adds the only cool note in the whole piece.
It is a hand-carry pochette: 22 cm across, 12 cm tall and 7 cm deep, with one short handle and a flap that closes over a phone, a cardholder, keys and a lipstick. I treat mine as summer evening wear, which is when a white bag looks like a decision rather than a risk.
Matte alligator is the most forgiving exotic finish for a pale color, since it does not mirror sunlight or focus attention on a single spot. It does have one requirement: the matte surface picks up a sheen wherever it is handled, so over years the flap and handle will take on a soft glow. That is honest patina, not damage.
Keep it away from denim and ink and out of direct sun, and it will hold this chalk tone far longer than calfskin would.
A final word on the practical side: matte alligator does not slide off a lap the way a glossy skin can, because the surface has grip. On a bench or a marble table it stays where I put it, a small comfort I have come to appreciate every evening of the summer. It also resists fingerprints, which a shiny exotic never does.
