The Faubourg’s front panel is its whole personality, and in Rouge Sellier, Ebene and Rouge H it becomes a little shop front at dusk: deep red awnings, dark timber, a lit window. I have carried this version to autumn dinners and gallery openings, and it is the bag people ask about rather than the watch or the shoes. At 20 by 16 by 11 cm it belongs in a hand or on a wrist, close to the body, where its scale makes sense.
The materials are the point. Madame calf gives the body a firm, smooth skin that holds the tiny architecture of the bag without sagging, and the glazed alligator awning above the flap adds a row of scales with real depth, each one slightly different, all facing the same way. The silver hardware keeps the reds from turning sweet; the closure turns with the same weight as on a full-size piece, which is the detail that gives the miniature away as serious work.
Inside, it is a night-out bag: phone, a slim cardholder, keys, a lipstick. My compact sunglasses case stays home with this one, and a passport would fit but leave no friends.
The caveat is alligator care. Glazed scales dislike perfume, hand cream, rain and rough bags, and they should be stored with the bag’s shape supported. Treat it gently and it will stay glossy; treat it like a beater and the scales will tell on you within a season.
