Canvas changes how a Garden Party feels in the hand: lighter, softer, a little more casual than the all-leather versions. This one pairs deep marine canvas with vertigo green trim, and in the sun the green is a sharp jolt against the blue. Thirty centimeters of canvas body, with Negonda calfskin where your hands actually land, on the handles and the edges.
The leather trim means the parts you touch still feel like pebbled country calf, matte and warm, while the body sheds weight. Silver hardware stays at the snap. I take this one on ferries, to the botanical garden, on any day where the bag will spend time on the floor or in the grass.
Inside on an average outing: a packed lunch, a bottle of water, a magazine and a light cardigan. The canvas body gives a little, so bulk slides in easily, and the open top makes it a one-handed bag. The interior pocket keeps keys and a card holder from wandering. In grass and on a station platform it sits flat and stays stable, and it is light enough that you forget you are carrying it.
Two honest points. Canvas creases. Pack it out and you will see soft folds across the body that leather would never show, and the top edge bends if you overload it. It also dislikes a proper soaking more than leather does. In exchange you get a bag that weighs noticeably less, dries fast, and takes a beating without drama.
