Bleu Hydra is the color I pack for the coast. It is a clear, saturated blue with a cool cast, the shade of deep pool water on a bright day, and on pebbled Negonda it stays crisp rather than candy-like. The 30 cm size keeps it a day bag, which is exactly how much blue this bright should be carried in one go.
Negonda’s matte pebble softens the saturation slightly, so the blue reads confident rather than neon. There is silver at the snap closure and nowhere else. In a white outfit it is the whole look; against denim it plays club member to the theme. I have carried it to long lunches, gallery afternoons and one very hot wedding, and it behaved at all three.
Inside: a folded cardigan, sunglasses, a small camera and its spare battery, wallet, phone and keys. The interior pocket keeps the battery and the cards apart, and the open top means the camera comes out fast when something worth photographing appears without warning. Sun cream and sand are its natural enemies, so a wipe cloth travels in the pocket beside the camera.
The one honest warning: saturated blues show pale scratches and dry spots more than muted colors do, and Negonda’s pebble hides most of them but not all of them under direct light. Condition it routinely and keep it off rough stone. The color is worth the small discipline it asks for.
