Snow grey in the middle of winter sounds like a contradiction, but Gris Neve is the bag my cold-weather wardrobe actually wanted. It is pale, cool and faintly silver, the colour of fresh snow at dusk, and it looks most itself against camel coats, wool knits and everything white.
Held against snow or a pale coat, the bag stays quiet rather than bridal, largely because the Clemence grain gives the grey a stony, organic texture. The leather folds and softens as you wear it, and the perforated H sits across the front like a pressed pattern. The strap runs long enough to cross the body over a heavy coat, which is how I wear it from November onward.
What fits on a winter day: my phone, a card case, keys, a compact, a balm, earphones and a pocket diary, with the back slip pocket for a metro card. There is room left for a compact umbrella in the main compartment, though it makes the bag hang lower on the hip. The open top means gloves come out fast in the cold, and the strap length works over a puffer jacket when January arrives properly.
Silver-tone hardware suits the cool tone of the colour perfectly. Practical note: pale grey hides dust better than white and shows rain spots less than beige, which makes Gris Neve the most low-maintenance of the light shades in my experience. Through slush and gritted streets it has needed nothing more than its usual wipe, and the perforated H has kept its clean outline.
