Etoupe is the colour I recommend to anyone building a wardrobe around fewer, better things: a grey-taupe that shifts with whatever it sits against, warm next to cream, cool next to charcoal. This Kelly Jump in Swift, with gold hardware, might be the most quietly useful bag in my cupboard.
The numbers are modest – 18 by 14.5 by 6 cm – and the pack is cut for essentials: a phone, a card case, keys, a lipstick, plus a granola bar on school mornings. Swift calfskin is the softest of the house leathers, with a gentle sheen and a hand that folds rather than fights; in Etoupe the finish reads almost suede-like in low light.
Straps are slim and adjustable, and because the body is light you forget you are wearing it. One zip-free main compartment means quick access and no fumbling – a plus when you are holding a coffee. The flap closure takes a second to learn and then becomes muscle memory.
Honest note: Swift is the leather most likely to show a mark from a fingernail or a key, and Etoupe will pick up faint blue transfer if you wear it against dark denim. Both issues are cosmetic and both fade with a wipe and a little warmth from your hands. In practice that means it comes out for errands, school mornings and short flights, when being ruthless about what I pack is the whole point.
